LingoLark Cloud
LingoLark Cloud fills English glosses and runs Reader language tools through LingoLark's servers. You do not install a local model. Each successful Cloud action spends one AI credit.
Every new account starts with 50 free Cloud AI actions (once your email is confirmed, or straight away with Google). Buying packs in the app is not live yet; when you run out, you can ask for more.
What Cloud is
When you pick LingoLark Cloud in the extension, or Cloud in the Reader rail:
- You must be signed in.
- LingoLark sends the selected text and the prompt to the LingoLark app.
- The app forwards that request to an inference provider (OpenRouter and the model behind it).
- On success, your AI credit balance drops by 1.
Ollama and Chrome Nano do not use this path and do not spend credits.
Cloud AI is not the same as cloud sync of your vocabulary list. Sync keeps your saved words in your account automatically. Cloud AI only sends the prompt for that one action.
Alpha launch (current impl)
| What | Alpha today |
|---|---|
| Who can use it | Any signed-in account with credits. New accounts get 50 free actions once. |
| More credits | Not self-serve yet. When you run out, Request more credits (in the Reader, or the extension's Translation model note) asks the LingoLark team. |
| Reader | Cloud / Local switch in the language tools rail. Cloud is the default. The rail shows N AI actions left. |
| Extension | Translation model includes LingoLark Cloud. The popup default is still Type it yourself. |
| Cost per action | 1 credit per successful Cloud call. A multi-word save from the extension is one call (one credit), not one per word. |
| Out of credits | Reader and extension offer Request more credits; Local, Nano and Type it yourself keep working. |
| Signed out | Cloud asks you to sign in. Local, Nano, and Type it yourself still work. |
| Free trial busy | Free starter actions share a daily limit across all new accounts. If it's reached, Cloud says the free trial is busy until the next day (UTC); Local still works. |
Privacy
Cloud prompts leave your machine. If the route uses a free / zero-price OpenRouter model, that upstream provider may log prompts and completions and use them to train or improve their models. Do not Cloud-send secrets, credentials, or sensitive personal text.

How to use Cloud in the extension
- Sign in: in the toolbar popup, open the gear → Account → Sign in. It opens the LingoLark website; once you log in there (email or Google), the extension is signed in too.
- Set Translation model to LingoLark Cloud.
- Save a phrase from the side panel or Save to LingoLark context menu.
The English gloss comes from Cloud when the call succeeds and you still have credits.
How to use Cloud in the Reader
- Open a passage in the LingoLark web Reader.
- In the language tools rail, leave Cloud selected (or switch back to it).
- Highlight text, then use Break down, Grammar, My words, Conjugate, or Save word.
- Watch the credit count tick down after a successful Cloud run. Local runs do not change it.
When to pick something else
- Prompts should stay on this machine -- Ollama or Chrome Nano
- No automatic gloss -- Type it yourself
- Out of credits and cannot re-up yet -- Local or Type it yourself
