Study Language
LingoLark currently supports French, German, Italian, and Spanish. This page covers how your study language gets picked on the web and in the extension, and today's one-language-per-account limit.
One language per account today
Most accounts can study exactly one language at a time. Multi-language accounts exist for a small number of testers today; broader multi-language support is coming soon.
On the web
Sign in at lingolark.com and open your Dashboard. If your account doesn't have a study language yet, you'll see a Select a language button instead of the usual Reader and Saved words tiles -- click it to choose French, German, Italian, or Spanish.
This is a one-time pick. Once set, it becomes your account's study language:
- Your Reader and Saved words pages are scoped to it (for example,
lingolark.com/french/reader). - Opening a saved passage or word list in a different language than your account's isn't possible right now -- if that ever comes up, it means something's out of sync rather than a setting to change.
There is no self-serve way to change your study language once it's set. If you signed up studying the wrong language, reach out and we can help.
In the extension
The extension picks up your study language during first-run onboarding, and stores it per browser/device rather than following your signed-in account. This means:
- A fresh install or a new machine starts you at the onboarding language picker again.
- The extension's choice can, today, end up different from your web account's study language if you pick differently in each place.
Bringing the extension's language choice in line with your web account is in progress. Until then, treat the extension's pick as separate from the web dashboard's.
Multi-language accounts
The data model behind study languages already supports studying more than one language, and LingoLark can enable this for specific accounts on request. If that's you, your saved words and reader stay grouped by language as usual -- you'll just be able to have more than one active at a time. Self-serve multi-language support (picking it yourself, no request needed) is planned but not live yet.
